Dislocation equilibrium conditions revisited

چکیده
If there is an equilibrium arrangement of a given collection of dislocations, each having a fixed size and shape, in an externally loaded or unloaded elastic body, the corresponding potential energy will be stationary with respect to infinitesimal perturbations of the dislocation positions. This leads to the dislocation equilibrium conditions: the Peach– Koehler forces along the dislocation line of each dislocation due to externally applied stress and the interaction of the dislocation with other dislocations and its own image field is a set of self-equilibrated forces. The earlier proof of this result presented in the literature was based on an incomplete expression for the elastic strain energy. This is modified here by using the elastic strain energy expression that accounts for all dislocation core energy. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

On the elastic strain energy representation of a dislocated body and dislocation equilibrium conditions
Abstract. Various equilibrium dislocation distributions in finite and infinite media were recently analyzed [51 both from theoretical and computational standpoints. In this paper we shed further light on this issue, by elaborating on a variational procedure that gives the required equilibrium conditions: the glide forces on each dislocation represent a set of self-equilibrating forces. The deri...
متن کاملTopicalization and Left-Dislocation: A Functional Opposition Revisited
In this case study, we use conversational data from the Switchboard corpus to investigate the functional opposition between two pragmatically specialized constructions of English: Topicalization and Left Dislocation. Specifically, we use distributional trends in the Switchboard corpus to revise several conclusions reached by Prince (1981a, 1981b, 1997) concerning the function of Left Dislocatio...
متن کاملVesicle model with bending energy revisited
The equations governing the conditions of mechanical equilibrium in fluid membranes subject to bending are revisited thanks to the principle of virtual work. The note proposes systematic tools to obtain the shape equation and the line condition instead of Christoffel symbols and the complex calculations they entail. The method seems adequate to investigate all problems involving surface energies.

The Potential Energy Surface PES of (H2)2 dimer has been investigated, using five simple rigid rotor models. These models are called: head to head, symmetric side to side, L , steplike and T model. All calculations were done at two levels of ab initio methods: MP2(Full) and QCISD (T,Full) using cc-pVTZ basis set at singlet state of spin multiplicity. The results of scanning PES were then fitte...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulations of 1 / 2 a 〈 1 1 1 〉 screw dislocation in Ta
Using a new, first principles based, embedded-atom-method (EAM) potential for tantalum (Ta), we have carried out molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the core structure, core energy and Peierls energy barrier and stress for the 1/2 a〈1 1 1〉 screw dislocation. Equilibrated core structures were obtained by relaxation of dislocation quadrupoles with periodic boundary conditions. We f...
